A 9 to 5 in the Meat Suit
A 9 to 5 in the Meat Suit is a stop motion animation I completed in May of 2025. This was the final assignment for my Animation 2: Experiments class. The prompt for this final was to create a ‘self portrait,’ and so the film follows the day in the life of a little purple guy clocking in for a shift in my head.
Behind the Scenes
This was a super fun film to work on. The physical scale of the set and puppet is a lot smaller than a usual stop motion animation would be. This made it a little difficult to get intricate movements while animating, but the scale still had practical benefits like moving the set around to get different camera angles.
Struggles
I had not taken a proper puppet fabrication class prior to creating this film, so the armature and materials used for this puppet were rather unorthodox. I used a couple layers of jewelry wire for the limbs and cut drinking straws to create distinct joints. The whole thing was covered in tape and toilet paper to bulk up the body before the final layer of felt.
